First visit to Music Savvy Mom? Awesome! Go
So, I should probably clear up a few things, here.
- (a.) I am both ‘THE Music Savvy Mom’ AND ‘Ri. Short for Maria. Not pronounced like the bread.’ from Mamarazzi: Chasing Liam. I was ‘Bored Mabel’, too, but I axed her. Hell, I have a hard enough time being two posters, three would have sent me right over the edge. Sheese.
- (2.) I am NOT the hawt chick in the header with the headphones and sunglasses.
As I mentioned somewhere earlier, I did NOT think things out carefully before some Scotch and an evening of my husband watching baseball combined to create this blog. I just knew I wanted it to look good, and in the initial stages…it didn’t.
So, on a panicky whim, I texted my buddy CMF – we’ll call her ‘Chronic’ for this story – that’s her Superhero name – and said “I need photos of you in headphones and big sunglasses – STAT!” Now, mind you – she had NO idea what I needed these things for, and it was ten thirty on a Monday night. Her response? “I’m on it!”
In fifteen minutes, she emailed me the two photos you see in the header above. Dude, Chronic is the kind of buddy you always wanted by your side in that ice-block fort while you were being pummeled by snowballs, and your cousin sat there whining while snot froze under his nose. She’s like Rin Tin Tin when all your other friends are Scooby Doo. (Although, she DOES love snacks…)
She’s a scientist. (really – she is! Environmental Chemist – wears steel toed boots to work every day.) She’s a kickboxer. She’s actually not a Mom…yet. She loves fishing, and her sense of humor is that of a 13 year old boy. She’s a wonderful friend, an expert cake decorator, and her very cool hubby is a professional musician currently on the Warped Tour. She is badass.
And…she shuffles! Check it, and as always: support the artists. Buy the music you love.
Marc Broussard – “Home” Marc Broussard is way hot and can sing like a mofo. My only complaint is that he sometimes tucks his T-shirts into his jeans. Don’t get me wrong… I love a man that’s got the “squish factor” going on. They just shouldn’t tuck their T-shirts into their jeans Come on Marc. Srsly.
The Gin Blossoms – “Learning The Hard Way” (Major Lodge Victory) OK…the Gin Blossoms are, like, my favoritest band of all time. Seriously some of the best songwriting of any Arizona band I’ve ever heard. They had a show in D.C. last month….but cancelled at the last minute. I cried and got a tattoo.
Deltron 3030 – “3030” A masterful work featuring the hip hop genius of Dan the Automator, Del tha Funkee Homosapien , and DJ Kid Koala. It’s been my “go-to” CD for blasting in the parking lot when I wish to appear too cool for school. It’s, like, supposed to be set in the future or something. I don’t get it…but I love it.
The Refreshments – “Mekong” The Refreshments are probably best known for performing the theme song to “King of the Hill”. But actually, they’re in a close tie with Boyz II Men for my second favoritest band of all time (srsly). For a short time, I wasn’t sure if it was really the band I liked, or if it was the fact that the lead singer looked a lot like this dude I had a humongous crush on (oh, Chad…*sigh*).
Girl Talk – “Bounce That” Don’t be fooled…this is actually an awkward white dude with a degree in biomedical engineering. Who knew? He does these cool mashed-up remixes (possibly in his mother’s basement) using a crap-ton of unauthorized samples. This verges on annoying sometimes…but 99% of the time is sounds pretty badass.
The Zutons – “Valerie” The Zutons are an indie rock band from Liverpool (thank you, Wikipedia). They look like an indie rock band from Liverpool and sound like an indie rock band from Liverpool. I got no problem with that. I think they’re cool.
Eastern Standard Time – “Its Alright”
Westbound Train – “Forever” In the interest of full disclosure….you might just be helping me pay my mortgage if you buy these two CDS. But in any case…..still good, right?
