First visit to Music Savvy Mom? Awesome! Go HERE quick to get caught up.

As threatened, we’ve completed another Interactive Community Playlist here at MSM! This past week’s theme was Who Are You? , and we came up with some fun stuff…not only the songs listed below, but we had a good time commenting on each other’s picks. Click the link above to see the entire “back and forth”…hehe.

The list below is not in chronological order with the playlist, but grouped by contributor. When applicable, I’ve listed their blog link below their name – go give them some love, too!

As always, go buy it if you love it…and make plans NOW to join us next week. (New link and theme at the very end…)

Here Comes a Storm…

The Verve: Bittersweet Symphony
“Simply put, Bittersweet Symphony is my favorite song on the planet. I have the lyrics as my iPod engraving and it is the one song that I count on to make me stop take a deep breath. When I go out, this one is on my funeral/drunken bash playlist”

Train: Meet Virginia
“Meet Virginia just speaks to me. “She only drinks coffee at midnight When the moment is not right Her timing is quite, unusual You see her confidence is tragic, but her Intuition magic And the shape of her body? Unusual.” That’s me.”

U2: Gloria
“Gloria was the first U2 song I heard. Diana’s Record Shop in downtown Eugene Oregon circa 1982. They played Gloria and I Will Follow. I was 12. It was the first time that a song went beyond being something I liked to listen to, to a voice that spoke directly to me. ”

Bauhaus: Bela Lugosi is Dead
“I can not maintain my Goth Rep without at least one song from Bauhaus. And really, this one is the Grandaddy of Goth Anthems. Let’s all wear black and dance like we are sweeping cobwebs, shall we?”

West of Mars

The Who: Baba O’Riley
“I couldn’t resist. Sorry. Well, I’m not really sorry, but I feel like it’s the proper thing to say. When I worked in the record store, I actually called a radio station to ask what the real name of the song was. I wasn’t a Who fan back then; you can tell. The DJ was great about it.”

Tesla: Little Suzy
“Although I don’t like being called Suzy, this is a good theme song for me. ”

The Diva
I Am The Diva

Stevie Wonder: Sir Duke
“You can feel it all over! Everything about this song is awesome, the beat, the melody, the catchy tune… and all the great name dropping… how can you not dance when you hear Steven Wonder?”

Bjork: Joga
“All these accidents that happen, follow the dots, coincidence makes sense only with you -> i can relate. Bjork’s melodies and unique vocals take a little getting used to, and her accent is sometimes tough to navigate, but i luff her. ”

Tool: Sober
“My all time favourite Tool song… He puts so much emotion into this song when he sings. Hard not to love him.”

A Perfect Circle: 3 Libras
“This was my gateway drug to TOOL, i fell in love with Maynard’s voice in this A Perfect Circle track… it will always have a soft spot in my heart.”

Devilish Southern Belle

Audioslave: Doesn’t Remind Me
“One of my two ‘happy’ songs.”

Hatebreed: Destroy Everything
“This is my “angry” song. The lyrics sum my feelings up perfectly. I also listen when I need a bit of aggression. I skate to it, run to it, work out to it, blast it in the car, and listen to it just whenever I don’t need to be sad or down.”

Van Morrison: Into The Mystic
“Another “happy” song. Something about rocking your gypsy soul really, really moves me.”

Black Lab: Time Ago
“I couldn’t decide between sad, wistful songs, so just went with this one. ”

(My buddy who needs to come hang with us more often…)

The Band: The Weight
“Mention Woodstock to me and this is the song that comes to mind first. I don’t think this is about me, but I like the attitude of it.”

(Another buddy who needs to come hang with us more often…)

The Avett Brothers: When I Drink
“This song is a constant reminder to me to behave myself!”

(AGAIN with the buddies who don’t hang out often enough. I’m gonna have to have a talk with these girls…LOL!)

The Raconteurs: You Don’t Understand Me
Jason Mraz: A Beautiful Mess
Simon & Garfunkel: I Am a Rock
“maybe i took this challenge too seriously….”

(Hmmm…a new mystery buddy! Come out & tell us who you are, MM!)

Train: Drops of Jupiter
“At one point I did feel this song defined me. It’s still the one I think of first when a question like this comes up. Not sure why anymore. My life before kids seems kinda hazy… :)”

Jonatha Brooke: How Deep Is Your Love?
“Ooh, it is a good one. I <3 Jonatha Brooke!”

Music Savvy Mom

Roger Miller: You Can’t Rollerskate in a Buffalo Herd
“This has become my anthem…mainly because of it’s truthiness. [/Stephen Colbert] I mean, really – you honestly CAN’T go fishing in a watermelon patch. Okay, well you COULD, but it would be an excercise in futility. So, now that I’ve aged and hopefully am not quite the hothead I once was, (and I was. Oh, cheeses. I’m Italian, dude…) I try to avoid those. Not sweat the small stuff. Screw the buffalo – I’ll just go skate somewhere else. Baw ba doo be doo be doo doo doo… ”

Lyle Lovett: She’s No Lady
“If you ask my husband, he’ll tell you this one was ABSOLUTELY written about me… ”

Liz Phair: Mother’s Little Helper
“Look, I’m forty one. I have a three year old boy who I believe has some Energizer Bunny DNA. I’m Type A already, and by the end of the day I’m Type A+++ Squared. Yes, I love my Xanax. Bite me, judgemental haterz! (Then, have one of these homemade cookies…:D ) ”

John Prine & Bonnie Raitt: Angel From Montgomery
“Okay, so I’m not old…but, there was a time in my life that I felt exactly like this. (and then, I divorced the ex husband.) How in the hell did John Prine get in my head…?”

Ben Folds: The Luckiest
“I’m adding five…well… because I can! lol No, I couldn’t add the last one without adding this one. THIS is how I feel about Hubs. Thank God I found him! ” “Oh, and btw – hubs HATES this song with a passion. Thinks it’s the cheesiest thing there is. (Which is why I love to torment him with it…)”
