Psst! Looking for Ash’s Pickup Shuffle with Chris Guanlao of Silversun Pickups?
It’s on The Buzz. Click HERE. 😉
Truly, she is an enigma wrapped in a riddle. On purpose.
Her blog, The Drafts Folder, to me reads like it was written by an expatriate spy who left “The Company” and is now in deep, deep cover. Or maybe by Dana Sculley. Either way, the wisps of mystery and intrigue that dance around the edges of details you wish were revealed is tantalizing. One post is cryptic and puzzling, the next is clear and hysterical, a third could be a page out of MANY of our lives. I find myself wondering where in the column the next post will fall…so, naturally, I’m going back, right? Genius. 😉
And, as our GREAT luck would have it – she’s an indie music afficcionado! And when I say that, I mean ground floor, “finds the bands before anyone else” kind of indie – the COOL kind. This shuffle will definitely broaden some musical horizons, and introduce bands we may not otherwise have ever heard.
(Which is EXACTLY what I hoped for with this blog. Kick ASS! Thanks, /strong>, Draftqueen!! )
“But, Honestly” by the Foo Fighters
I saw the Foo Fighters live about a year and a half ago. Amazing as always. Most amazing part of this show? Dave Grohl’s little one (about 18 months?) ROCKING to the music from in front of the stage sporting noice canceling headphones. That kid danced for 2 solid hours while Daddy worked. It was adorable. All kids should be that cool.
“Next in Line” by Meese
First time I heard this song I was at an Our Lady Peace show in Boston. If I didn’t know better I’d say it was written by someone I recently “parted ways” with. Or maybe they read my blog and made a song of it.
“Made of Steel” by Our Lady Peace
OLP is my go-to band when I need a pick me up.
“Fall off the Earth” by Berman
One of the many songs I originally came across in a podcast. Actually? Maybe it wasn’t this one I heard, but it was something by these guys and that’s how I found them. Vague enough? Yup.
“The Only One” by Tabitha’s Secret
Know Tabitha’s Secret? 3/5 of Tabitha’s Secret are now known as Matchbox Twenty. And I’m a total sucker for Rob Thomas’s southern accent in this song.
“Angels on the Moon” by Thriving Ivory
I own the demo version of this song. I’m an early adopter. (See above.)
“Down”- Safety Suit
Actually, this one comes up on my iPod as being by the artist Crew. Safety Suit used to be Crew before they got signed to a major label and had to change their name. (Again with the early adopting.)
“Pints of Guinness Make You Strong” by Against Me!
I came about this one in a podcast. Or the podcaster in question bestowed it upon me at some point. It’s hard to remember. I’ve seen them 3 times live. I totally mention it in a blog. (Hey! When I saw Dave’s daughter!)
“Cali Girl” by Ballyhoo!
My favorite podcaster ever introduced me to this gem. Even though Tim still points me to the good music, IR Baltimore is pretty much an archive. (But hilarious!)
“Taste of Ink” by The Used
Ever have someone scream “it’s 4 o’clock in the F****** morning!” to this song AT 4am? I have. Driving from Georgia to Massachusetts. Somewhere near New Jersey, I think. Too much caffeine on the part of the driver. (Wait. It was me. Sorry passengers!)
Truth be told this wasn’t my original shuffle. Much of what I listen to is entirely un “playlist.com-able.” which is sad because it totally had some great music on there.
(She’s right. So, you’re going to have to go look these up yourselves…~Ri)
“Leaving Hollywood” by Recliner
“Watercolors” by bill
“Sh Boop” by Brenden Hines
“Independent” by Chance
“Tonight” by Americanrockstar
“Virginia is for Lovers” by Lucky Caderra
