Yeah, so today’s Friday Fiver is a Sixer…because I like to keep y’all on your toes. AND, just to keep things fresh and lively, we’ll throw in a lil’ challenge along with!
Here’s the scoop:
Listen to these tracks and respond in the comments with your “reviews”. (Per usual.) BUT, this time…first one to guess which of these songs belongs to an artist who’s known as “the Springsteen of Missisippi”, there’s a CD in it for you. As usual, I’ll post the “Answers” in the Saturday Scoop tomorrow.
Enjoy, and don’t be shy! Tell me what you think!

Wow. 100 visitors so far, and no comments? *tap, tap* Is this thing on?

You did see the part where I said GIVEAWAY, right? C’mon, y’all – de-lurk, will ya?

Crap! I know I just read that description in the past week! Now where did I read it? Online? in Rolling Stone? I wish I had a photographic memory like my Pop did….
time to go have a little listen and maybe it will jog the old brain cells
#1 Totally love the “bones” at the beginning wish there was more of it… You can’t go wrong with La La Las imho Dig This
#2 I liked this one just fine. It makes me think of a character singing in a rock opera though… like he’s delivering lines or something a la JCSS *shrugs* *squishyface*
#3 It’s just a’ight little too Dixie Chick-ish
#4 Love this. Got it on an NPR download from SXSW this year
#5 Oh yes, Springsteen of Mississippi (only I like this waaaay better than anything by the Boss)
#6 A big Fat NOPE couldn’t listen all the way through
I love #1. But I am very biased here and it isn’t fair. And I can’t wait for the reveal and for you all to embrace this band.
#2 and #3 – i listened, but had work to do while I listened. And neither of them made me stop doing my work. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, I enjoyed listening to them but there was no “hook”, so to speak.
#4 LOVE it. Cannot wait to hear more….unless I already have :/
#5 reminds me of She and Him. Which is not bad either.
Honestly, I like all kinds of music, but we need to get some harder rock in here.
Can’t use the tagline “Rocking required” and not rock out weekly. IMHO
Y’know, I was thinking the EXACT same thing today on the way to pick Liam up from Pre-School, as I was pounding on the steering wheel while listening to this:

Perhaps we need a lil’ Clutch in our lives next week?

Um. Yeah. Obviously that embedding didn’t work. Hang on…

Oh, screw it – not time to figure out why that didn’t work, so I just added it as number 7. What the hell…

I totally got my numbering all wrong. I had a serious case of the Friday yesterday…
5 is the Boss from the Mississippi
6 is the She & Him soundalike
7… \m/
RT @MusicSavvyMom: Okay, Music Fans – the Friday Fiver is up! "The One Where I Can't Count, but Add a Giveaway." http://ow.ly/1U1J6
1. Dude. I flove this song. Layered, nice voice, love the lyrics that rhyme but not in a precious way. This is a ‘story of my damn life’ kind of song. I give it 5 of 5 stars. Plus an extra star for general awesomeness.
2. Very Simon & Garfunkel to me. Okay but not memorable. Annoying use of metaphor in places. 2 of 5 stars.
3. Hmm. I didn’t really want to like this but I do. “I can’t remember what I came to forget, so I must be doing something right” may be my favorite lyric of right now. It’s country-sounding but not country-sounding enough, kind of stalls out in adult contemporary/soft rock and that I find annoying. 3 of 5 stars.
4. I like the parts. The singer’s voice is great but the falsetto is grating. Too much rhythmic piano but love the piano when it supports the bass. And I’m all over a gritty guitar. 4 of 5 for me.
5. Good, bluesy sound. Good lyrics. 4 of 5.
6. Yeah? No. 0 of 5.
I’m with Ash; bring on the rock!
Yep it's Friday RT: Friday Fiver: The One Where I Can't Count, but Add a Giveaway. http://bit.ly/9ERErI
1. Is very Squirrel Nut Zippers -ish. And really only one band can pull that off. Thankfully!
2. Is a bit coffee house depressing
3. I’m diggin
4. “In reverse..” and “hearse” that’s a bit Seussy for me
5. Lovin’ the funk vibes on the base on the lead in.. EVEN better the Muddy Waters vocals! WHERE CAN I GET THIS?!!!!!
6. Is sort Patsy Cline falsetto.. it might grow on me.
Finally thanks be to Ash for inspiring that tasty classic nugget of gospel meets rock.. LORD it’s oh so GUUUD!
I enjoyed your follow thru of mississippi math ( friday fiver was 7) to go along with the mississippi springsteen.. I didn’t answer or post because I felt as if I had an unfair adventage over the rest of the visitors… but your new look is so bright and shiny and full of awesome rolled up in glitter. Can’t wait to see the outcome, keep em coming Ri. you rock.
Bwahaha!! “Mississippi Math” *spits coffee on keyboard*
1. I guess I’ll jump on that bandwagon….listened about 4 times before going on to #2. Good stuff.
2. OK….a bit movie theme for me but pleasant.
3. Kinda like this one…..
4. LOVE the beat.
5. LOVE this–though it makes feel like I should be in a dark smoky bar sucking down something harder than Diet Dr. Pepper while listening….
6. Yeah, not so much.
7. A favorite!!

Ri,
I saw the video to song #2 last week, at the encouragement of a friend living in Seattle. I LOVE their sound but the video was a tad bit on the freaky side!
