Y’know,I’ve mentioned before that I’m lucky enough to get tips on music now from “insiders”, right?
(I mean, it’s not like Bono is ringing me to do lunch so he can run a new U2 track past me, but still…I’m getting stuff.)
Now, fairly often I get requests to feature “Kids Music”, which I politely decline because the entire premise of the site is…um…well, ANTI-kids music. But, every once in a while (remember Patrick and Eugene?) I get something that just tickles me no end, and I have to share it.
Enter “The Dream Jam Band“. Friggin’ adorable, they are. My first thought when I watched their video for “Have a Party When You Get the Blues” (see below) was…”Dude. It’s like they’re the B-52s, but in reverse!”
(And by “in reverse” I mean…the B-52s music wasn’t INTENDED for kids, yet kids love it…well, this music IS intended for kids, but I like it, too.)
Well, that, and the feather boas, bright suits and 60′s Go Go boots scream Cindy, Kate, Ricky and Keith.
So, yeah…for those of you who have little ones who aren’t yet ready for The White Stripes, but you just can’t bring yourself to dish up the aural pablum that is Barney, check out the Dream Jam Band. They’re fun, they’re funky, and their music doesn’t suck. That means they get a Four Binkie Review from me!

They are way B-52s-esque for sure. There is a huge wave of kindie-rock that I’ve seen, and the refreshing thing is that the songs are palatable and fun to listen to. Plus, the lyrics don’t offend the tender eared when you walk around the house singing them (as opposed to say, Rage Against the Machine – which also has a place in my home).
We’ve got the Sugar Free All Stars here in OKC, a duo that plays kid-friendly and adults-only tunes. I’m a fan. I don’t know if I would put it in my iPod for workout jams, but I would put it in my kid’s CD player and sing along to it.
I’d be VERY surprised if they didn’t model themselves after the B-52s, for this video at least. Cute stuff!
