So, d’ya remember that Latvian Sheep Herder?

Y’know, sometimes, when I get so wrapped up in other stuff…I forget that I’m damn funny.

No, seriously. Maybe not to anyone ELSE, mind you, but I routinely crack myself up…and that’s REALLY what’s important, right? Like it says in the box below my posts – I’m RARELY serious. I believe the creative use of snark is an art, and sarcasm in its purest form should be just a hair to the left of totally believable. And it’s about that which I speak to you today. (Well, and other stuff.)

If you follow my many mis-adventures on the web, you’ll know that I am currently knee deep in a project for another blog, The Music Mamas. Specifically: we’re helping our buddy Chris Blake to get the word out about his new EP, Girl. Now, you remember Chris…I’ve posted about him before. In that post, I gave you a few points of information about him, and let you guess which ones were true, remember?  Here it is again:

So, immediately after I accosted him on Twitter respectfully requested that he be our very first “Artist Spotlight Shuffler” , I started the research. Here’s what I came up with – some of it may or may not be true. You decide:

He grew up in the frigid mountains of Northern Latvia. The son of sheep herders (that’s not a typo. Latvians don’t consider themselves ‘shepherds’. They spell it out.), he once slew a fearsome, sheep gobbling dragon with a tainted jam sandwich while sitting by his Grandmother’s lake. That’s where he gets his Americanized surname: B’Lake. (He dropped the apostrophe.)

He considers the most wonderful thing about being a Father to be the ability to settle and argument with “because”.

He’s a master of Social Networking. He’s gracious, polite and unassuming, yet he’s not going to wait for a Record Label staff to promote him. He’s making it happen himself.

His favorite board game as a kid was Stratego. He even loved the commercial: “Strateeeeggooo!”

Now. Seriously, people. You would not believe HOW MANY PEOPLE have told me that they thought Chris was really Latvian.

Really? I mean – a Latvian who slew a dragon with a tainted jam sandwich? REALLY?? My only conclusion here has to be that you guys don’t ACTUALLY read entire paragraphs – either that, or Chris’ winning personality on Twitter is so endearing and engaging that you could absolutely believe such a heroic feat of him.

*Insert big eye roll here. That was sarcasm.*

Although, it might not hurt to circulate that rumor, now that I think about it. You know what level of cache and mystique an exotic lineage can create…

But, regardless – what I DO know is that I like his music, by all accounts he’s a heck of a good guy and he, too, has a great sense of humor. (Although he’s a bit more modest about his than I am of mine…) In an age where so many artists still remain behind the curtain of big promotion and record company spin, Chris is out here every day…being Chris. Chris the Dad, Chris the musician, Chris the regular guy. That’s refreshing, and something I can totally support.

And so, we are! The Music Mamas are helping him get the word out about his new EP & newly launched site, and are celebrating with a Twitter Party this Friday night. Chris will be there along with most of the Music Mamas, we’ll laugh and goof and not take anything too seriously…and we’ll be giving away some NICE prizes!

(Can you say “music, speaker system, Skull Candy gear, rockin’ t-shirts… iPod Touch!?!” I knew that you could. )
