Threefer with Coastal Chick!

Today’s Threefer comes from: Kathryn at Coastal Chick and The Saucy Bits

Theme: Kathryn didn’t give one, so I’ll just call it “kickass” . 😉 ~Ri

General Liner Notes: Here we go.  So I made a life playlist in June and these were on there (http://coastalchick.com/?p=714)

Track 1: Joe Cocker – Feelin’ Alright

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Release Date: 1976 (Cover Version)

Kathryn Says: This bad boy has been on heavy rotation on my cassette player/disc player/iPod since the late ’80’s.

Ri Says: Didja know this song was originally written by Dave Mason and recorded by the band Traffic in 1968?  Cocker was the master of covering other people’s songs…better.  When he performed this on Saturday Night Live in 1976, John Belushi joined him onstage (without telling Joe).  CLASSIC. Love him – if I ever get a Cocker Spaniel, I am SO naming it “Joe”.

Lyrics:

Seems I’ve got to have a change of scene
Cause every night I have the strangest dreams
Imprisoned by the way it could have been
Left here on my own or so it seems
I’ve got to leave before I start to scream
Someone locked the door and turned the key

Feeling alright
I’m not feeling too good myself
Feeling alright
I don’t have to feel alright
I’m feeling good myself
Boy you sure took me for a ride
And even now I sit and wonder why
That when I think of you I stop myself fron crying
I just can’t waist my time
I must keep tryin

I’ve got to stop believing all your lies
Cause there’s to much to do before I die

(Chorus)

Don’t you get to lost in all I say
But at the time you know
I really felt that way
But that was then and now you know its today
Lord I can’t escape I guess I’m here to stay
Till someone comes along to take my place
With a different name and a different face

(Chorus)

Track 2: Ray LaMontagne – Trouble

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Release Date: 2004 on CD of the same name

Kathryn Says: We moved across the country (Seattle to CT) two years ago and it was a hot mess for all of us, I would throw on Ray and have a glass of wine and he’d make it all better.

Ri Says: I love Ray LaMontagne.  That is all.

Lyrics:

Trouble…
Trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble
Trouble been doggin’ my soul since the day I was born
Worry…
Worry, worry, worry, worry
Worry just will not seem to leave my mind alone
We’ll I’ve been…
saved by a woman
I’ve been…
saved by a woman
I’ve been…
saved by a woman
She won’t let me go
She won’t let me go now
She won’t let me go
She won’t let me go now

Trouble…
Oh, trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble
Feels like every time I get back on my feet
she come around and knock me down again
Worry…
Oh, worry, worry, worry, worry
Sometimes I swear it feels like this worry is my only friend
We’ll I’ve been saved…
by a woman
I’ve been saved…
by a woman
I’ve been saved…
by a woman
She won’t let me go
She won’t let me go now
She won’t let me go
She won’t let me go now

Oh…, Ahhhh….
Ohhhh
She good to me now
She gave me love and affection
She good tell me now
She gave me love and affection
I Said I love her
Yes I love her
I said I love her
I said I love…
She good to me now
She’s good to me
She’s good to me

Track 3: Adele – Best for Last

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Release Date: June 24, 2008

Kathryn Says: I will listen to this girl sing anything – love everything about her.  Can’t wait for her new album in February.

Ri Says: No question about it – the girl’s got pipes!

Lyrics:

Wait, do you see my heart on my sleeve?

It’s been there for days on end and
It’s been waiting for you to open up
Just you baby, come on now
I’m trying to tell you just how
I’d like to hear the words roll out of your mouth finally
Say that it’s always been me

That’s made you feel a way you’ve never felt before
And I’m all you need and that you never want more
Then you’d say all of the right things without a clue
But you’d save the best for last
Like I’m the one for you

You should know that you’re just a temporary fix
This is not rooted with you it don’t mean that much to me
You’re just a filler in the space that happened to be free
How dare you think you’d get away with trying to play me

Why is it everytime I think I’ve tried my hardest
It turns out it ain’t enough cause you’re still not mentioning love
What am I supposed to do to make you want me properly?
I’m taking these chances and getting away
And though I’m trying my hardest you go back to her
And I think that I know things may never change
I’m still hoping one day I might hear you say

I make you feel a way you’ve never felt before
And I’m all you need and you never want more
Then you’d say all of the right things without a clue
But you’d save the best for last
Like I’m the one for you

You should know that you’re just a temporary fix
This is not rooted with you it don’t mean that much to me
You’re just a filler in the space that happened to be free
How dare you think you’d get away with trying to play me

But, despite the truth I know
I find it hard to let go and give up on you
Seems I love the things you do
Like the meaner you treat me the more eager I am
To persist with this heartbreak and running around
And I think that I know things may never change
I’m still hoping one day I might hear you say

I make you feel a way you’ve never felt before
And I’m all you need and that you never want more
And we’ll say all of the right things without a clue
And you’ll be the one for me and me the one for you

Damn!  posted this without the Bonus Track!

The English Beat – Mirror in the Bathroom

Kathryn Says: because they were cute, and English, and I played it on my BOOMBOX like all cool 14 year olds did in the ’80’s.
Ri Says: Can’t argue with one word of that…agreed on all counts!

Confession time.. I seriously thought “Trouble” was a Muddy Waters song. Music Mama FAIL! I’m game for anything Joe Cocker. Growing up with my dad -bass, lead, vocals and sometimes drums- and his hippie-funk classically trained pals Joe Cocker sang my bedtime stories. Perhaps this is why I have to have a noise machine on to sleep to this day.

    Fab list! WELCOME BACK RI!

    Kathryn, Great choices!
Belushi doing Cocker is classic SNL

Ray L what’s not to love… anyone switch to the insurance company with the red umbrella since they started using Troble and the little dog with the bone in their ads? yeah, me neither

Adele is so talented, but for whatever reason, she hasn’t “grabbed” me…. yet

Mirror in the Bathroom… I too was 14 in the eighties and loved this!

    Love me a fourfer threefer
    Thanks Kathryn and Ri
